Need help. Please!!!
Hi everyone. I have a M17X R2 with dual HD5870M gpu. I wanna know how can i test the motherboard to see if its working? I get no signal on the screen, black screen and nothing on external port(hdmi or vga). i dont wanna buy a gpu and then if its still not working buy a motherboard. The laptop starts, keyboard is getting power and the alien logo plus the head on the top lid. Charging is no problem. It has 4GB of ram. If both are connected nothing happens. If only 1 ram is connected then I get a blinking capslock and Numlock. Any thoughts? Ideas? I can hear the hdd working and when i shut the laptop down it takes a few seconds. Tryed to swap the gpus and still no change of working( maybe both gpus are dead). Or ? Please help!

Is the product under warranty? If not it honestly might not be a bad idea to send it in to Alienware for repair or at least get a quote from them. Its probably the motherboard at this point, but in reality it could be a lot of things. It could be a costly journey to figure out what is wrong with it and almost blindly replacing components. I can just see its possible to replace the motherboard and still be at square one after spending the money to replace it.

Remove both slots of ram and let me know if the computer makes a beep code on start up (The beeps should be complaining about no RAM). The reason I ask you to do this is because the motherboard, it it is working right should first initialize the CPU, then proceed to the RAM. If at any point during the process something happens it should stop booting. If it never gets to the RAM (doesn't beep) then that suggest the motherboard or the CPU is causing an issue and stopping the boot process.

I have started the laptop without any ram memory connected. The only error im getting is a blinking capslock and numlock. I have tested the ram in the weekend and one of them is faulty( im getting a blinking capslock with the ram connected). So i have a cpu or a motherboard problem.

You mentioned the blinking caps and num lock and ive read that those are LED codes that have to do with RAM possibly(?). You also say that one stick is faulty which further suggests this. Try reseating the working RAM and remember that you might not be seating them fully, so make sure you are by watching a few YouTube videos. Also, try the stick in all the slots and test the stick in each one.
Also, you might try removing the CMOS battery and putting it back.
Let me know how it goes.

I have tried removing the cmos battery and still nothing.(its reseting the bios) And i dont think its about the ram. I have another laptop with 8GB of ram and i stick them in the faulty alienware, i get the same issue nothing is blinking(like capslock, numlock, scrolllock). It dosent make any sound that will guide me for the problem. I can hear the HDD starting when i start the laptop and maybe other parts are starting. But still nothing on the screen or external screen. I have to close the laptop from the start up button and it takes like few seconds to shutdown. I think maybe the gpus can be dead or motherboard, or maybe processor. But i really dont know what.... And i dont wanna invest in something and not get a result.

No more warranty for the system. I heard that they are charging alot of money for the repairs, dont think its the best solution.

So i just contact the support team from Dell on facebook. I got an aswer fast.
"Hi Calin,
Thank you for writing to us about your concerns. The symptoms indicates issues with the motherboard."
So maybe i can buy a motherboard a try to fix it. I will wait for some more answers and then i will buy one to try fixing it. Thank you so much for the help Meowland.
