My x51 r3 suddenly shut down itself today and won't turn on without the removal of the GTX970. (Bought in June 2016)
When I start the computer with the GTX970 on, only the fan on the motherboard works, no power on the pump, lights, and gpu fan. After I remove the GTX970 and only plug in the SSD itself (graphics card and SSD share the same pcie, I can still use the integrated Intel graphics card and the system runs well.So is it my GTX970 dead or the problem of the power connector on motherboard or PSU ?
Thank you.

Yes, sounds like your GTX-970 might be bad. However, it might just be:
- Malfunctioning or degraded Power Supply system (it's just laptop like)
- GTX-970 just pulling too much power when maxed-out
The way you test GTX-970 in this instance is you test it in another appropriate desktop computer.

Thank you, Tesla 1856. I was thinking about the same thing, but not quite sure. I tried the GTX-970 on my friend's rig, it is confirmed dead
, it was like the card had a heart attack when I was watching Youtube. Anyway, I will avoid any PNY card later (it is the stock card with my x51 r3).
I just ordered a new GTX-1060 founder's edition, I will test it when it arrives to see if the motherboard and power supply are still good or not.

1. Good work and troubleshooting.
2. That's lame. Did you call Dell or PNY? It can't be that old.
3. Sounds like a good plan.

shouldn't have an issue.. I had my 970 actually burn up playing PUB-G so you got lucky lol
got it replaced with a generic 970 from dell under warranty .. still going strong (not without conflict and issues tho.. but meh..)
I originally had a 1070 running in my X51 R3 (founders edition so it vents out the back) and ran flawless so regardless the 1060 shouldn't be an issue...
if you look online you will see PNY cards were known for failure fast, and even amazon had a sale selling them for around 200 bucks for a while... wonder why LOL

on the other Hand i wonder why it's always X51 with a Bad Card. every other Week we get a new Thread with the same Issue. around 95% of the X51 Threads are GPU related. Coincidence?

The 330W power brick provides enough power for the x-51 rig. The GPU temp fluctuates between 50 C to 75 C, so it is quite normal. I would say just the poor quality of the PNY card. It is rare you card burn out when you are just watching Youtube.
