Looked on Dell uk website today only to find the system I ordered (above) is no longer available

And any replacement with the same components is significantly more expensive

What can I do now?

I am truly gutted that Dell seems to have given up on the promise they made at E3 to offer truly affordable VR through the Alienware Aurora line of products.

If I were A more cynical person I would suggest that they cancelled my order simply to try and force me into paying much more than my now cancelled (by Dell) order, but that would be A truly horrible way to treat me as A customer, surely that's not the case?

Any body able to explain this for me or put my mind at ease?

Hi sadpanda765.

unfortunately i think you are onto something. the Prices for SSDs, RAM and Graphics Cards went up lately. i would not order another System if i were you. canceling Orders without plausible Explanation is a No Go for me.

now when you call them they will probably try to spin it and say that the 460W Power Supply was too weak.

Order Information
Alienware X51 R2 Order

this confuses me in your order information...  since thats a complete different older system.. haha

anyway its possible they finally used up  stock of older 6th gen intel  or such,  its been replaced with 7th gen intel

Yes, I noticed that too. Looks like the UK website is jacked up ... allowing invalid configs, etc. I see some other strange line-item selections there also.

Also, notice it says Aurora-R5, while Aurora-R6 has been the current model for over 6 months here in USA.

Yeah, I do understand that prices can fluctuate as you say, and the cancelling of my order with such vague reasoning is a bit of a red flag to me also.

The thing that bothers me most however, is that the difference in price to reorder a similar spec system is between £400-£500 more than the order Dell cancelled, which seems like much more than simply accounting for some price rises in some components.

Yeah the UK version of Dell's site does not allow for too much config, not in comparison to the US version at any rate.

I wonder, would I be better off placing any future order with Dell at the US online store instead of the UK one, does Dell allow for that?

That's a great idea, but after talking to *shudder* the dell customer service dept this morning I decided instead to treat myself to an MSI Aegis

So all's well that ends well I guess.

have you considered to buy this Machine from Retail Seller. Amazon offers some Models for Example. they are pre-configured and have four Digits Dell ID. this is how i ordered my PC. i googled the Specs i wanted and then just searched for the cheapest Price Online. visit idealo.co and search for Alienware Aurora + four Digits Number you googled before. i ended up saving 500 €.

It's very reassuring to read that your experience was so positive, makes me feel a lot better about splashing out on myself lol.

I guess I will mark this post as solved now then but I am grateful to you, and indeed to 89fordprobee as well as Tesla1856 for taking the time to reply to me

If only Dell's customer support were as friendly, they would be a much improved purchasing experience.

oh, looks like it didn't go very well. well MSI isn't bad either. we use their Boards and GPUs to build custom PCs alot. their Service is okay. Pickup & Return worked great for me when my Apache Laptop decided to go Nuts. took a Week if i remember correctly and my Laptop was back Home working again.
