How to setup AHCI on AREA-51 R2
Hi all, really need help
I have bought a 850 EVO SSD (very expensive, my own B-day gift) and cannot find a way to activate AHCI. I tried to change the registry. The Samsung Magician sees the SSD but says that it cannot be used because of RAID config. The system sees it but the explorer cannot access it.
Really need help here
FYI I allready have a 250gb SSD and a 4t HDD

I believe you have to do it in BIOS. The computer is set up already with RAID drivers so if you switched just willy nilly it will blue screen. Most people back up their information, switch it in BIOS, then reinstall windows and drivers. If you choose to do this make sure you have the restore USB or DVD created via Dell's restore utilities.

I don't have such. But I figured out a way to active the Intel AHCI management through the registry. Thanks for your help

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately the Area 51 R2 bios does not allow to switch from RAID to AHCI. So I guess I either have to find a way to force the BIOS setup or to make the SSD work without AHCI. Any lead would be more than welcome on either options.

When you boot up do you get a screen that says something like 'Intel RAID' and to press a key combination to access it? I'm wondering if you have to do AHCI from there. BE CAREFUL and backup your stuff first.

I gave up switching from RAID to AHCI through the BIOS (not a fan of the blue screen risk). I kept the RAID config in the BIOS and activated the intel ACHI in the registry (you can google it to find how to do that). In the system menus I could see that the SSD was there but not accessible through the explorer.
With both RAID and Intel ACHI activated I used a partition tool (I think it was Partition Wizard 9) to create a partition. The tool saw the SSD and properly created the partition. Now my SSD was accessible and worked just fine.
Hope it helps
