HDMI port isnt recognizing cords

hello,

i recently bought an 17" laptop to run an oculus off of. I have been using it for about 2 weeks without issue but then yestarday I attempted to plug in the rift and the laptop wouldn't recognize the hdmi port. I then tried plugging in an extra monitor to see if it was an issue with the oculus but the monitor also didn't register. What steps should I take to get the hdmi port running again? As I said the laptop is only 2 weeks old so I'm hoping to get this worked out quickly and easily.
