GPU to PC Power Connection
Hello, I recently ordered an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 for my Dell Alienware X51 R3. I currently have a GTX 745 which requires 2, 6 pin connectors. According to what I could find the 1060 only has 1 6 pin connector. My question is: Do I need a dual 6 pin to single 6 pin adapter or do I only need to use one of the connectors and leave the other unhooked. Thanks!

Hi,
No, you don't need a dual 6 pin to single 6 pin adapter, which is lucky for you, as there is no such thing.
They have dual 6->8pin adapters, or single 6->dual 6 pin SPLITTERS, but there's no reason in the world you'd take 2 "lanes" of power and combine them to 1 "lane" of the same power size... (you'd do this to move to a "larger lane" though, i.e. 6 to 8 pin power source though, but that's not what we're talking about here...)
Use 1 of the connections, leave the other tucked to the side where it won't interfere with anything else.
Not to get too far off topic, but it seems to me you might appreciate some extra information. You might find this thread interesting, and if it's not been too long, you should know you can return your 1060 put a larger 1070 in the X51 with a slight bit of modification if you're up to the task. Just make sure you're using the 330w power brick (D/PN:Y90RR / 5X3NX / F0K0N / XM3C3 / 331-2429 OR Output 19.5V & 16.9A)
Cheers,
