Game Freezes at Battery mode
I have an Alienware 17 R3 notebook. I am facing this issue for the last few months.
Nvidia driver crashes whenever I try to play a game on Battery Mode. And before anyone starts suggesting that I tweak some settings in Nvidia Control Panel or in Power Options or reinstall latest/old/stable nvidia drivers, I have done everything. Literally every tweaking that I could find in the internet. Nothing helped.
My System Config is:
i7 6700HQ, 16g RAM, 8g gtx 980m, BIOS 1.3.10
The Event log messages are: (after crash, freeze and forced restart)
1. The speed of processor 1 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 4 seconds since the last report.
2. The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 4 seconds since the last report.
3. The speed of processor 2 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 4 seconds since the last report.
4. The speed of processor 7 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 4 seconds since the last report.
5. The speed of processor 6 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 4 seconds since the last report.
6. Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
I have reinstalled Windows from Dell Support site several times. But to no avail. I am not sure whether its a hardware issue. Because non gaming tasks on battery mode never crashes the system. It is just that whenever I pull the plug, my screen freezes with lots of pixelated horizontal lines across the display.
There is one more warning message in Event logs. Not sure what it is, but it is linked to intel chipset.
The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\INT3400\2&daba3ff&0.
Is anyone else facing a similar problem? Or does anyone know any fix for this?
Please help.
Thanks.

Hi wildpr0ngs,
Does the same happen if you turn the system on in battery mode? Does the same thing happen in the BIOS?
Also, try running an ePSA/Diagnostic test on the system (with and without the ac adapter), click here to view a Dell article that explains how to run this test. Let me know if you receive any errors.

I would like to mention another weird thing. After every fresh installation of the Nvidia driver, games in battery mode run smoothly for about 15 mins before crashing(the entire system crashes along with the game), but consecutive tries at playing the game after that in battery mode results in an immediate crash.

Hi Eimy,
Yes, it happens even if I turn the laptop on in battery mode. At first I thought it was a Windows issue. But I have installed the factory default windows with the older drivers too and the issue still persists. So, that probably rules out any software related issue. I have run the ePSA with the AC adapter attached. I will run it again on battery mode and let you know.
Anyway, thanks for your reply.

Hi,
I did the ePSA at battery mode. No errors except "no ac adapter detected".
But, I did the stress test of the gfx card at battery mode and the system crashed after a few tests. And I also faced BSODs for the next couple of time I restarted my system. the message said "VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR".
My system is still in warranty and the MoBo is a new one. Had it changed because I faced GPU throttling issues. Can I go for a full system replacement? The support guys always go for part change, which has clearly created other issues.
1. Boot fails at every alternate startup with error message saying "No boot media found. Press F1......"
2. Windows freezes at logon screen.
3. Lots of h/w related errors and warning messages in Event Viewer. Half of which I have no idea about.
Please advise.
Thanks
