Does Aurora r5 support i7-7700k right now with simple Bios update 1.0.3? Did anyone ever try it?
Not sure if now with new Bios will support Kaby lake. Anyone ever try it?
Thanks

Hi Feralant,
The Aurora R5 motherboard is not going to support the Kabylake processors (Intel 7th Gen). The motherboard and chipset are different.

@ Alienware-Eimy Thanks.. How about upgrading to 6700k instead? Will the current Bios works?
Thanks in advance

Yes, with the latest BIOS and also you'll need a heatsink for the mosfets.

Feralant I feel bad for you, in that you weren't told the real reason you can't upgrade to Kabylake, weren't explained what a MOSFET is, or why they need a heatsink, how to get a heatsink, or what to do if a heatsink is not available; not just you, but anyone who reads this post in the future will've been left, oh, uninformed. A shame, since Eimy likes to think of R5 as a high-end system. High end systems need good tech support, yes?
Scroll down to my 2nd post for VRM Mosfet heatsinks: Aurora R5 R6 Community Discussion + Upgrades
Metal - Oxide - Semi conducting - Field Effect - Transistors & Voltage Regulating components need a heatsink so they do not catch fire, burn up, experience a heat death, or thermal throttle the CPU (VRM throttling). The lack of this basic heatsink on all Aurora motherboards (supposed high-end systems) to me is gross negligence in pursuit of a miniscule corporate cost-cut
If you're unable to buy the correct OEM heatsink for your motherboard, we might then widen the definition of gross negligence
Also missing from the discussion, a suggestion to try a liquid CPU cooler when moving to the top Skylake CPU; the 91watt CPU will quickly overwhelm your old 65watt air-cooled fan-sink and turn it into a hair dryer like experience

Cass-Ole: Thanks a lot for your help. Its a quite explanation. So basically its not only to install liquid cooler for the 6700k but I have to also install heatsink on those MOSFETs? As mine doesnt have any heatsinks (photo attached). Any suggestion for the aftermarket liquid cooler that will fit?
My current setup (excuse the mess as I am still trying to get better cables):
Aurora R5 i7 6700 3.4hz
Corsair Vengenace LPX 32gb (4x8gb)
Samsung 960 evo 250gb
Samsung 850 250gb
HDD 7200 1tb
EVGA GTX1080 SC
PSU Corsair RM1000
Next upgrades: i7 6700k with Liquid cooling, SLI (EVGA), and cable management.

I wonder if it's possible you deleted your 1st post from an hour ago ...
I linked you to the R5 56 community discussion, it's a page I started that didn't get much traction, but instead, information's been scattered about the forum in individual posts, I've lost track or never read possibly good information, such is life. In my post, in an attempt to lay some facts & speculations down on a computer I do not own, you'll find info on heatsinks, possible heatsink part #'s
(what happens if they fall off is a question I can't answer)
feel free to tweet at the General Manager about gross negligence if you like; if you get scared to, then simply ask to have the actual heatsink you need released to spare parts for purchase in the event they are not for sale now, the one that should already have been placed there when you bought it, the one that 6700k buyers got
https://twitter.com/AzorFrank
My post then sparingly goes over other cooling parts. Best bet is the original cooler for $99. I do not know if they're in stock, a documented part# is MH0HN but may be different between R5 R6

Feel free to document your 1000watt power plant swap here, or, in community discussion. When you get 6700k, liqwfied + VRM heatsink, document it so others can follow your lead

I can't help you or anyone else out over how to best protect the VRMs up there, on a product I don't own. Measure the screw mount hole length & see what's online that might fit there. I've heard of people scoping out eBay, looking for a heatsinked motherboard, buying it, robbing it, then placing it back up for sale & waiting it out (at worst, if it doesn't sell, it's a handy spare just in case). In an every-man-for-himself type atmosphere, desperate times call for desperate measures. Part# 1NYPT. None available now that work, just the junk one in the photo above, so play the waiting game, buy a working one if you get desperate
None of this should be happening, the heatsink should be easily readily available for purchase from Dell, chat with them to find out

J46J2 is supposed to be it, confirm with Dell or ask for alternate part#

RM1000 GPU Power 8pin
Toss the goofy 24pin adapter that has the 4-wire 8pin you've plugged into the GPU_PWR port; instead, bust out your 2nd CPU cable from the new pouch, place it into an open 8pin front panel port (see above), route it to GPU_PWR, ok? That's what it's for
