Chipset not installing with Support Assistant
Hi there. I hope someone out there can help me with this. I have had the same problem since I bought the computer over 6 months ago. I try to install a Chipset update using Support Assistant and after reboot it still says it needs to be installed. I have attached a detailed screen shot to help. Thanks. Oh and I have had about three blue-screen-of-death incidents in the last six weeks.

Hi Psyfrog,
The version you have is the latest one, it is a problem with the Support Assist app. This has already been escalated and it looks like a new version will come out in about a month.
So the bluescreen should be related to something else, you can download this app to check for bluescreens.
BlueScreenView doesn't require any installation process or additional dll files. In order to start using it, simply run the executable file - BlueScreenView.exe
After running BlueScreenView, it automatically scans your MiniDump folder and display all crash details in the upper pane.

Hallo.
maybe you don't need the Update. do you have other Problems with your Machine? Black Screen, Stutter, BSOD, anything?
btw, you can install the Chipset Driver manualy. Download the Driver for your System from the Dell Website.
check the Device Manager. click "Start" and type in "Device Manager".
are there any Unknown Devices?

1. If you require further assistance, you should probably clearly state your exact Model.
2. Don't use SupportAssist as there is a bug. See these threads:
BIOS and Intel HECI (ME) Driver not updating
and
3. Do as Eimy says, but I also wonder what Windows Reliability Monitor report says? See any red errors around those BSOD times?
