Can we use TB16 dock with Alienware 15R2.

I am looking for a good dock for Alienware 15R2. Will the TB16 dock work with the laptop. I am looking for expanding ports, display and not bothered about charging the laptop?

Is there any other good alternative dock that can be used?

Hi praveenvj‌,

The TB16 has not yet been validated for Alienware computers, so we can not guarantee 100% functionality. We are in the process of validating it and we could have an answer in less than 2 weeks.

Hello Eimy, is there anything new in this topic? Thank you.

Especially I'm looking into power from dock. I have seen somewhere, that TB16 equipped with 240W PS (one of two possible sets) can power beasts up to 180W and as stated, my 15 R2 needs at least 180W, so it may be possible, though I don't believe it. Even if it would not work, I could use adapter from dock to power laptop and use spare 130W adapter I have to power dock (if possible... another variable) and use original laptop's 240W adaper at my second home (as 130W won't charge battery and limits performance).

For sure, the best is to try myself and see, but still not sure, if it is viable option as so many bad reports are out there.

Would also like to hear about validation for the 17r3, as per my old post about this subject:

Thunderbolt is practically useless on these systems as things currently stand; there are no guaranteed or validated configurations available. All sizzle and no steak.

Another bump to see if there is anything new on this, it's been 10 weeks, and update would be great!

Thanks.

I bought the Dell Universal Dock - D6000.

It works on the USB C port and allows to add extra peripherals. Only Display Out does not work properly when using the USB C port. It works fine if we use the USB A port.
