Aurora R6 Optical Drive Size
I have an Alienware Aurora R6 and am frustratingly trying to upgrade the optical drive to one that can read Blu-rays. Does anyone know what drive size specs I should be looking for? It's a low profile drive that is even smaller than a standard laptop optical drive. Thanks for any help.
Background in case anyone's interested: When purchasing this computer the only spec they showed was that it was a 5.25" drive. Assuming it would be a full sized 5.25", I ordered the system with the least expensive DVD option, meaning to switch it out with the Blu-ray drive in my old system. This, of course, didn't work, so eventually I ordered a low profile Blu-ray drive meant for laptops. The slot in the case is too small even for this drive. What grinds my gears about this is that it's obvious that the internal bay (silver metal part) is big enough for the laptop drive. It's the outer case (black metal part) and front bezel that are the obstructions.

Hi Ix66,
It is a 9.5mm SATA Laptop, Tray Load CD DVD drive.
This is the part number that we have PVM4X: BluRay Drive Writer, 9.5mm, SATA, 6X/6X, Tray, HLDS, (BU40N)

Yeah, I thought the Blu-Ray option was a little over-priced, so I just went with DVD option instead.
At least you got the front bezel and special cables. I think you will have to order from Dell. Rodrigo, Eimy, DELL-ChrisM , or Dell Parts should be able to get you the DPN.
I've got a nice 5.25" LG BluRay-Burner (SATA interface) in my older Aurora-R1. If I need to move it to the Aurora-R6, I think I will just put it in a good (UASP based) USB-3 enclosure. I mainly use it for ripping, but it does have Burn-Proof also. For more serious use (like heavy burning), I suppose I could pop-in a PCIe e-SATA card.

I picked mine up from ebay for $60 from seller lonestar*tech512. I will say the drive is very flimsy. You have to press pretty hard to lock it into place. I thought I was going to break it the first few tries. Overall it works as expected Not too loud during movies. Haven't tried backing anything up yet so not sure if its any faster than my old sony blu ray writer.

There is nothing to hold the drive in if it doesn't have the metal bracket on the backside. Its not clear to me that power and data cables are included.
Also there may be a Different front panel with DVD cutout whereas the Non DVD/Blueray front panel has no opening.
