Aurora-R5, Palit GTX 1070 Jetstream is too long
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone was having difficulties upgrading their GPU to a 1070. I currently have a 960 but want to upgrade to a 1070. I found that it was too large and wouldn't fit? Is this a common issue or have I just managed to buy a stupidly large video card?

edit @Dark provides this advice
If fan removal doesn't help it fit, see my general post below. If it does fit after front fan removal, the possibility of reintegrating a 'slimmer' front fan was discussed here: Fan Sizehello okumam. your new R5 purchased lastweek included what is called the 1070(FE) Founders Edition, which is generally referred to as a Reference Design card; while all or most 3rd Party AIB (add-in board) partners like Gigabyte / Asus / MSI / EVGA will offer a reference design card, they are free to design their own cards & improve the design with better cooling or higher-performance over the reference design, they may even change the dimensions of the card to accomplish this, making it wider or longer or both.
Also, the FE Editions are a blower-type single-fan design, where the fan kicks air out of the back of the card & out of your case; non-FE cards can & tend to be open-air designs with multiple fans which do not expel air out of the case; an augmentative PCI slot fan can help rid the case of this air when an open slot is available & a source of power / ground can be given to the slot fan
@Turtle I suspect you've purchased a card one-size too-big; please inform the Aurora Community which card it is, so that they know to avoid it or avoid its dimensions when possible, based on your experience. The reference design dimensions are below, which represent 'approved cards'; those with dimensions that deviate may not fit, based on the thread topic we've read. I hope you find a remedy
*when purchasing cards, it is best to buy from a source who offers a lenient return policy, in the event the card does not seem to work / be compatible or does not fit in your case

I bought a new R5 with a 1070 inside last week. I don't know if that helps you.

Just remove the front case fan - thermals will stay within range of 90 c under load and 40 c off load.

TurtleHero,
As usual, Cass-Ole is spot on. Please post the specific make and model of that GTX 1070 so we can add it to the database.

Hello all,
Sorry for the incredibly delayed reply, I've been busy and have only just been able to read all the messages. I over estimated my dimensions and was way off, the product I had got was the 8G PALIT GTX1070 JetStream, I do believe removing the fan would have helped, however, I decided to opt for a slightly smaller gpu with the dimensions listed above and left the fan alone for now.
Thanks everyone for all the help, it's much appreciated.

You could have replaced the fan with a 14mm width rather than the 28 mm width provided

Doge, I'm subscribed & got an email notify --> is that a typo? I believe the front fan is standard 25mm wide, while slimmer options tend to be 12mm 15mm 20mm; I ran a search, there are no 14mm x 120mm fans. On a side note, the slimmer the fan, you might find it less powerful than the original stats-wise for static pressure & CFMs or both (1inch = 2.54cm, so a 25mil fan = ~1inch)

But what fan do you suggest power wise? I haven't found a front fan replacement yet and the fan warning is very annoying

I don't own this case, it isn't ez to recommend the best fan; what I did was searched 120 X 15mm pwm for likely candidates & vendors, for instance FrozenCpu & eBay if you prefer; if you can find a model you'd like to try, pursue the best source for it. Note how Frozen gives 4 models 3 of which are out of stock, so you might try to run those 3 down elsewhere by model #, from there you can try to get specs like max rpm / cfm/ static pressure & noise levels & narrow down a likely winner (which I don't have tome to pursue). 12mm & 20mm would be the next choice if the 15 doesn't Goldilox; it wouldn't be abnormal to buy a fan then try a different one later, since this is a low-cost improvement. You'll want a 4pin pwm, not a 3pin standard
