Alienware 17 R4 NVMe options?

Hello,

I am thinking of purchasing an Alienware 17 R4 (2016) laptop, and to cut down on the initial cost, I have been considering the possibility of getting the stock mechanical 1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive, and upgrade to an NVMe drive later.

There seems to be some confusion about the supported NVMe drives (see for instance this thread http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19659289

I would like to know which NVMe drives are supported by the 2016 Alienware 17 R4, and whether upgrading it myself a few months down the road would result in warranty violation (I'm guessing not), and most importantly, if this would create problems with the Windows 10 license.

I appreciate your comments!

None of the specific M.2 NVMe PCIe drives are listed yet in our tools. All we have is the description =
Storage HDD =
2.5" 320GB, 7200RPM
2.5" 500GB, 7200RPM
2.5" 1TB, 7200RPM

Storage SSD =
SATA 6GB/s SSD: 128GB, 256GB
M.2 NVMe PCIe 32GB/s SSD: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB
Two full size, one half size

As long as you do not break any of the Dell shipped hardware when adding any 3rd party hardware, the warranty is still good. But if you were to crack the case cover or damage the motherboard pins while doing this, we would not cover those broken items.
