Adding 2.5 Drive to Aurora R2 -- Power Cables Present, No SATA

I bought the Aurora R6 with two drives, an SSD for the OS (buried somewhere in the case) and a 3.5" data drive. I now want to add two additional 2.5 drives. I found the cables in the case that connect up to the power -- both drives are powered from the same main trunk cable with daisy chained connectors.

There are no SATA cables. I know I need to buy them, but... I see two slots labeled SATA3 and SATA4, which I presume are the right places to plug the cables into. Before I go fishing around in the case I want to confirm that's the right place to plug the SATA cables into the main board.

Thanks!

Brian

1. It's the small PCB that looks similar to a ram DIMM ... on the motherboard right next to those SATA connectors.

2. I guess so if they are not supplied. Get SATA-3/600 rated ones of proper length. One plug should be straight, and the drive-end should have a 90-degree angle plug on it.

3. Yes, you can use SATA-3/4 for more SATA drives. SATA-1/2 are likely being used for existing 3.5-inch spinner HDD and the optical drive.

There is a nice PDF Service Manual for Aurora-R6.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected was the case. I had started with the service manual. The instructions are clear and very helpful. Unfortunately the pictures assume the SATA cables are already present so I just wanted to double-check before I started plugging cables into the main board.

I'd hate to ruin a $4,500 computer by being rash.

Cheers,

Brian
