XPS 13 9360 overheating during video calls

My XPS 13 9360 core temperatures go up by 30C during a video call. Fans get very loud (and are picked up by the mics as interference) and eventually the keyboard gets excessively warm.

I am running Ubuntu 20.04. According to Settings I have the Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 620 (KBL GT2) graphics hardware and I appear to have the correct drivers installed.

Can anyone advise me, please?

The laptop is on a flat hard surface and has no problems getting fresh air ?

If it overheats.. the only cure I would use is to buy a support to put the laptop on, with fans. Gamers use those a lot, and it helps cooling their laptops.

It's a base you put under your laptop. Comes with a few fans, and it pushes fresh air to the laptop and cools it down by several degrees.

A long term fix would be to have the software use less video compression, as it is very probably the compression being applied to the video signal that makes the laptop work hard.

Can you tweak or control the codec and compression level for the conferencing software ?
