Which Linux distribution for my XPS 8940

I would like to install Linux on a second sdd so I can have Windows on one sdd and Linux on another and choose which to use at the time of booting my 8940.

I tried to install Debian but ran into lots and lots of issues, so I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a distribution of Linux that is known to work on the Dell XPS 8940.

I see a Ubuntu area. Is this the recommended distribution?
