Ubuntu on XPS 8960

I recently purchased a $2000 Dell XPS which runs Windows, but I want to run Ubuntu on it.  Neither versions 22 or 24 of Ubuntu will run/load.  It doesn't even run the trial on the USB stick,  pressing F12 at startup and selecting Ubuntu in the BIOS to run it  Am I doing something wrong or what?  Is this computer not capable of running Ubuntu?  Any help would be appreciated.

Only Windows 11 is supported by Dell on this model, so a Ubuntu forum is the place to start.

I bought a Dell XPS 8960 a couple of days ago and installed Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS on it. I had the 2nd latest BIOS version 2.8.0 (7th August 2024) but you should update to the latest version 2.9.1 (16th August 2024) before attempting to install. You can install the BIOS Update from USB.

Likely the BIOS update and or/the .1 patch (24.04.0 was quite unstable for a LTS) will have resolved the boot issue you experienced. Intel also had alot of problems with 13th generation processors, which have been addressed with BIOS Updates.

If it helps I made a video recording of my install Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS on Dell Systems - XPS 8960 (13th Generation with NVIDIA RTX4060) and Latitude 9420 (11th Generation 2 in 1 Touchscreen Device).

Note Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS installs the 535 NVIDIA driver which has issues with Wayland (settings and files cannot open properly), I recommend installing the 555 NVIDIA driver because it seems to work better.
