Touchpad freezes after firmware 1.4.1 update on XPS 13 9300

I recently installed the new bios update (1.4.1) to my XPS 13 9300 running ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS. Since the update, the performance of my laptop has degraded in several ways: switching between programs and workspaces is much slower, my DA200 adapter no longer functions with xrandr for using my HDMI external monitor, and my mouse frequently freezes when using the touchpad. Additionally I can no longer use the two finger scroll effectively as it stops scrolling after a very short period every time.

Has anyone else had these issues?

rbonv,

Roll back to the previous bios revision and let us know if that will resolve the issue.

Hi,

Please allow me sometime to review the case and I'll get back to you on DM.

Hi, can you point me to instructions on how to roll back the firmware? Thanks a lot!

@rbonv

So what is the process of rolling back from 1.4.1???

@DELL-Cares

The release notes specifically states: "Once the BIOS is upgraded to version 1.4.1 or later, you cannot downgrade the BIOS to version 1.3.0 or earlier."

There does not appear to be - it is also slightly difficult to even reflash the 1.4.1 update which is what they recommended, I'm trying to follow the instructions at https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000131486/update-the-dell-bios-in-a-linux-or-ubuntu-environment#updatebios2015 but the .cab file does not work either, will have to try a usb stick I guess

I managed to reinstall the 1.4.1 update, but I have continued to see many issues:

- On my last reboot before it reinstalled the update, the power up hung with the 2,1 flashing lights which seems to be the "processor issue" code.

- I am now completely unable to see my external monitor over HDMI through the DA200 adapter

- the touchpad continues to freeze

- lots of errors now on dmesg after boot: including

28.079452] ACPI BIOS Error (bug): AE_AML_PACKAGE_LIMIT, Index (0x00000003D) is beyond end of object (length 0x10) (20190816/exoparg2-396)

and

snd_hda_intel: No response from codec, resetting bus

What else can I try now that I've reinstalled the firmware update? My laptop is becoming nonfunctional
