Pro 14 Plus PB14250 running Ubuntu 25.10 does not recognize builtin webcam

lsusb returns

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 06cb:0701 Synaptics, Inc. SVP7500

Was it shipped from the factory with Ubuntu or did you install the OS -- and if the former, did the webcam function correctly out of the box?

Hi

As above.

Also you could try alternate searches....

lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 13d3:54a1 IMC Networks USB2.0 HD UVC WebCam
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 8087:0026 Intel Corp. AX201 Bluetooth
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
 ls -l /dev/video*
crw-rw----+ 1 root video 81, 0 Nov 14 09:11 /dev/video0
crw-rw----+ 1 root video 81, 1 Nov 14 09:11 /dev/video1
 v4l2-ctl --list-devices
USB2.0 HD UVC WebCam: USB2.0 HD (usb-0000:00:14.0-9):
/dev/video0
/dev/video1
/dev/media0
You may need to install the v4l-utils package.
Then I used "cheese" to prove the thing worked.

@anne_droid

ls -l  /dev/video*

gives an empty result

v4l2-ctl --list devices

gives an empty result

Hi

Well further research, Dell support and T'interWeb offers ...

Camera Type Windows Driver Source Linux Support Notes
RGB (FHD HDR) Dell Support, Intel 2D Imaging Kernel 6.17+ (ipu7 required) Physical shutter included
RGB + IR (FHD HDR) Dell Support Kernel 6.17+ (ipu7 required) Windows Hello, presence detection
MIPI + IR (5MP HDR) Dell Support Kernel 6.17+ (ipu7 required) Ambient light, advanced sensors

For best Linux performance with newer PB14250 models, use a distribution that ships kernel 6.17 or newer, and confirm that ''ipu7'' modules are loaded. For Windows, official Dell drivers are recommended for full functionality and feature support.

  • Confirm that IPU7 firmware is present in /lib/firmware/intel/ipu/

  • (files such as ipu7_fw.bin and ipu7ptl_fw.bin).

  • If missing, download from Intel’s firmware repositories or your distribution’s firmware package.

I am using Kernel 6.17.0 -7 and the files ipu7_fw.bin and ipu7ptl_fw.bin are available in /lib/firmware/intel/ipu/

I upgraded to 25.10 and now when I run v4l2-ctl --list, I get:

ipu7 (PCI:intel-ipu7):
/dev/video0
...
/dev/video31
/dev/media0`
I don't see the webcam when I run lsusb.
