Precision 5540 + WD19TB dock + Ubuntu 20.04 won't boot
This issue is similar to another on this community:
https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS13-can-not-boot-with-TB16/m-p/7570387
The differences are the equipment
I have a Precision 5540 (came preloaded with ubuntu 18.04) and I have a WD19TB dock.
Everything was working fine with this dock on Ubuntu 19.10, but I re-installed the OS and replaced with Ubuntu 20.04 (from the ISO).
Now I cannot boot the laptop from the dock or with the dock connected. I get to a black screen with both the Dell and Ubuntu logo with a spinning icon and stays stuck spinning.
If I unplug the dock, it continues on the same screen.
When I hard kill the machine by holding the power button down on the laptop. I can boot fine without the dock connected. Then I can plug in the dock and everything seems to work fine (dual monitors, usb jabra speaker phone, usb logitech reciever).
I have updated the system firmware on the laptop to the 1.7.0 via sudo fwupdmgr update
I have also updated to the latest firmware on the WD19TB dock (01.00.14.01, A03) by downloading the .cab file and running sudo fwupdmgr install WD19FirmwareUpdateLinux_01.00.14.cab (since this was not yet available in fwupdmgr). Neither have solved the issue.
Any ideas how to make this boot without having to unplug the dock and plug it in after boot?

Same issue here with a Precision 3551 and WD19TB. Is there any solution yet?

Same here with Precision 5540 + WD19TB after update from Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04.1.
I can boot just fine without dock and when plugging in the TB cable afterwards, then network and power works, but external display (DELL UP3216Q) cannot be found / remains black.
Still no solution?

I have the exact same issue with a Latitude 5411. I have updated the BIOS to the latest version and updated the firmware of the docking station as well.

Confirming the same issue on a XPS 9310 Developer Edition laptop with WD19TB dock. All firmware is up-to-date (as of the time of this post):
