Linux Mint Install on an XPS 9315
I am going to be setting up my first Linux machine. I'm waiting on delivery on a new Dell XPS 9315 that I bought on discount on the Dell Outlet Store. I probably should have joined this group before I did that. I am reading that people are having driver issues installing Ubuntu 24 and Mint 22 on the 9315. I know that it takes time for Linux to create or update drivers for newer machines. I'm just wondering if an older Dell would have been a better choice. Is anyone running the most recent versions of Ubuntu or Mint still having driver issues on their XPS 9315? Is it better to run older versions of these distros? The 9315 is pretty bare-bones when it comes to peripherals with only 2 USB-C ports and that's it. Although there are other features like a fingerprint reader and RGB/IR camera, & microphone you need working linux drivers for these and I'm seeing that people are having problems with the display and WiFi! Just wondering if I should return this machine for an older one and if running an older distro like Mint 21.3 or Ubuntu 22-23 is the only option for now?
