Is Ubuntu 16.10 supported on the XPS 13 9343?
I bought a 9343 developer edition XPS but then I lost the password. I made a bootable USB using ubuntu's guide online and installed 16.10.
Unfortunately, when I pulled the power cable to switch to battery power, it just just died immediately. I also notice there there is no battery life indicator in the top right bar.
Is there some way to add in or get Dell's specific drivers for Ubuntu?

I have the 2014 XPS 13 (9333). It has been running great on Ubuntu 16.04 (previously 15.10) after a clean install (more reliable than an "upgrade" install).
Get a live USB stick with 16.04 and give it a try. If it works (it should), do a clean install ( after ***thorough*** backups!).

Thank you for your reply. I would like to run 16.04 as you recommend but I am having trouble booting a USB with the ISO. I am following the instructions available on the ubuntu.com website. First I made a bootable USB using the Mac utility UNetBootin. That resulted in a syslinux error. So I figured there was just some bug with UNetBootin. So I next tried to create a bootable USB from Windows 7 using the Rufus 2.11 utility. That resulted in no error message but instead just a blank black screen.
I have gone into F2 and changed to boot in legacy mode and used the arrows to move USB drive up to the top of the list so that it boots from USB first.
What am I doing wrong?

I had huge problems a year ago trying to make a bootable live usb stick from linux. I eventually gave up and succeeded on the 1st try using Live USB Creator on a Windows box. I don't know why this is so difficult on linux. This is the only solution that worked for me.

After I posted my above question, I found a link to a KB article on how to boot with a USB image.
http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN297060/en
My steps were not quite the same - the SHIMx64.EFI file was in a different directory than the KB instructions, but, I found it.
So now I have 16.04 installed. I am able to pull the power cable without issue now, so, that is fixed as compared with 16.10. Unfortunately, the wifi doesn't seem to work. Googling that yields just incredible numbers of people having wifi issues with these XPS 13 developer edition laptops. Unfortunately, I also don't have a USB network cable adapter and there is no network cable port on the XPS 13. So, I am a little bit stuck now.
I bought this laptop about 13-14 months ago so I'm surprised there are so many issues still to be ironed out. I read something about the policy being to push all the bug fixes "upstream" into the latest kernel. It came with Ubuntu 14.04 when shipped and I am attempting to run 16.04 now.
I appreciate anyone's advice for any possible way that I can get a *working* Ubuntu install on this XPS 13 9343. I am not picky about the version of Ubuntu.

My adventure continues...
I went to Micro Center and got a USB Ethernet adapter. That got me online without issue. I ran the Ubuntu updates. Updates seemed not to work correctly because it updates everything and then refreshes...and then says you have the exact same updates as before you installed the updates. So I rebooted. Wow, that was a bad move. Now when I log in there is graphic distortion and it bombs out to a blue screen. I can do nothing now.

If you have not erased, you might be able to find the factory recover image by going through the bios. Otherwise, you're only real options are a clean install of 16.04 or 16.10.

I didn't realize I wasn't allowed to erase, so that ship has sailed.
I made a bootable USB of 15.10 and installed that. I found the following guide:
http://hgdev.co/install-ubuntu-15-10-on-the-dell-xps-13-9343-2015-a-complete-guide/
I also searched and found that apparently we have to disable secure boot in order for WiFi to work.
That might be why I was not able to get WiFi to work earlier with 16.04. I also updated the Bios to A09, which I understand to be the latest.
I also found more info on how to get it to boot once you have installed Ubuntu:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-sputnik/+bug/1499323
I am not able to pair my bluetooth earbuds with this new install of 15.10 despite following the above steps to "fix" bluetooth.
Now that I have Bios A09 and I learned about the need to disable secure boot, I may try 16.04 again. Earlier I was able to pair my Bluetooth ear buds with 16.04.
Anyone know if the new XPS Dev Edition's are better with driver support and more of an out of the box/just works sort of experience?
