Installing Ubuntu on a DELL Precision 7540 With Windows 10 and Intel RST
Hi,
I purchased a year ago a Dell Precision 7540 Laptop with Windows 10 pre-installed.
I have 3 internal PCIe NVMe SSD drives which amount 2.5 TB. Given that I need to run software on a Linux distro and Dell apparently supports Ubuntu I attempted to install Ubuntu's latest release with a bootable external USB drive. I couldn't finalize the Ubuntu installation because it indicated it was not compatible with Intel RST.
I found instructions at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-installation-on-computers-with-intel-r-rst-enabled/15347 indicating how to set up both in the Windows 10 registry and Dell BIOS with AHCI.
Unfortunately, these instructions did not guarantee to respect the previous Windows 10 installation.
I would appreciate anybody posting at this Dell forum could successfully install Ubuntu with a previous Windows 10 installation.
Best Regards

Hi! I also have Precision 7540 With Windows 10. In fact, everything is quite sad. There is no problem in installing ubuntu with windows saved. I bought a separate disk for this. The trouble is that ubuntu does not work stably. I have tried all known distributions. Ubuntu (unstable with external monitor), Kubuntu (freezes) Fedora (dies with the connection of an external monitor), Manjaro (freezes at the end of the installation), openSUSE also works crookedly. CentOS (problems connecting an external monitor). NVIDIA drivers don't get up correctly. I tried various settings in the BIOS. I did not achieve a positive stable effect.
