Fedora / debian on Precision T1600
Hello
Could you give me your feedback about the installation and use of Linux on dell precision T1600 ? Is it possible to install debian or fedora on it? Actually i have a Precision T1600 but i have a lot of difficulty to install debian or fedora.
For fedora, the installation process begin and then nothing on the screan ... there is a problem with the management of the video cards (onboard video card and Nvidia Quadro 300M) ... Or there is a problem beetween the signal send by the video card and the configuration of the screan ... I don't no but it's a big issue !!!
For debian, the installation works fine up to the last reboot. The computer restart but when the login appears it's impossible to read anything. It's like there is a problem with the display frequency (debian works but i can't have a normal display i just have a blue screan with bad frequencies ...)...
I think the problem is mainly related to video driver but i can't install them (on fedora i have no display and on debian the installation process can't recognize my network card which is a problem for using apt-get).
Any help will be appreciate ...
PS: I've read on the web that Ubuntu works with this workstation , Why Debian does not ? Dell wbsite indicate that the Dell Precision T1600 is certified for RHEL , why it doesn't work with Fedora ?

Ubuntu is based on Debian but is a different distro.
http://www.ubuntu.com
Because Fedora is not RHEL.

You can try a 'text install' to sidestep some of your video issues. For example in Fedora, at the installation boot prompt, type "linux text"...
Fedora installation guide:
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/14/html-single/Installation_Guide/index.html#ch-tuimode-x86
Also see:
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/14/html-single/Installation_Guide/index.html#id1368058
If the install is successful, but you cannot boot into the graphical login screen.
Hope this helps...

DUH!
No one told you to use Linux; you were the one who came here asking about Linux.
