Dell XPS 9370 - Fans
So I have my Dell XPS 13 9370 for almost a year now and I am quite happy with it. I bought it because it came with Linux (Ubuntu) and that was my main reason to choose a Dell because you're the only one it seems of the big players who sells it with Linux.
However, after almost a year I have never heard the fans or anything. I know they work when I run
s-tui
in the Terminal, but they go on after 30 seconds when the CPU is running on 95°c.
I am running the latest BIOS update which is 1.9.0 and I have used a "fix" from here: https://github.com/erpalma/throttled
And this is where most people from the Manjaro community (The Linux distribution I am running on my XPS) get it from through the AUR.
However, there has never been a fix through the BIOS to handle these throttling issues or to check whether the fans can be controlled in BIOS or to actually see them in the Terminal.
So can we still expect a fix for this? For a more stable and cooler system, because for a system as awesome as this I'd love a long life expectancy with fans that are as "aggressive" as they are on Windows. So to literally take the heat off. I would love my fans to kick in after 40° or the same 'script' that is in Windows.
Because I found out on our community that this is one the most popular laptops with Linux on it and I just hope we'll ever get a fix for it.
