Cannot install Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, OpenSUSE on an XPS 17 L702X
Hi,
I've tried to install Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Debian, OpenSUSE, Debian and Gentoo on my brand-new XPS 17 L702X, with no success. I've tried installing from CD, DVD, USB (both unetbootin and Universal USB Installer).
Specifically, Linux Mint 12 (DVD, 64-bit) and Ubuntu 11.10 (64-bit) via USB fail with
[ n.nnnnnn] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI removable disk
(where n is a digit) and Mint via DVD stalls at
[ n.nnnnnn] sr 5:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 [ n.nnnnnn] sr 5:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 5
followed by several iterations of
udevd[122]: timeout: killing '/sbin/modprobe -bv pci:v00008086s00000126sv00001028sd00000571bc03sc00i00' [193]
ending with
udevadm settle - timeout of 120 seconds reached, the event queue contains: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0 (1147)
Fedora 16 (64-bit) via USB fails with
udevd[169]: '/sbin/modprobe -bv pci:v000010DEd0000124Dsv00001028sd00000571bc03sc00i00' [172] terminated by signal 9 (Killed) [ n.nnnnnn] dracut: Starting plymouth daemon
OpenSUSE (32-bit) DVD/USB appears to work somewhat. I get console errors of either
udevd[131]: timeout: killing '/sbin/modprobe -bv pci:v00008086d00000126sv00001028sd00000571bc03sc00i00' [136]
or
Starting udev... udevd[139]: '/sbin/modprobe -bv pci:v00008086d00000126sv00001028sd00000571bc03sc00i00' [146] terminated by signal 9 (Killed)
depending on the phase of the moon. Either way I get into the GUI at least, but then the installation fails later.
Debian and Gentoo dump me in the command line, so I figure that something if failing there too!
Would anyone have a suggestion on how I could get Linux running on my Dell? (Preferably Linux Mint, but I'm getting desperate at this stage!)
Thanks in advance.

I have just bought a XPS 8300, same problem w/ latest releases of those distributions,
Older work, for example ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I have not tried an old Linux Mint but bet it probably works.
Good luck.
