USB Issues with new PB14250 Laptop
I just received a new PB14250 laptop to replace my 7420. With it I have a WD19TBS USB-C dock. Connected to the dock is a monitor,USB Keyboard/Mouse and USB Jabra Base with Wireless Headset to base. The dock is connected to the laptop USB-C port.
Right from the start I have been having ongoing USB issues with my USB devices. The headset is crackling and the keyboard will pause or not work randomly. The keyboard problem seems to happen every 30 to 60 minutes apart where sometimes it will come back after 30 seconds or so and sometimes I have to disconnect/reconnect the usb to get it back. The headset crackling is all the time when connected to dock.
Moving the headset and keyboard directly to the USB-A ports on the laptop solves the problem with the headset and it sounds normal and it works perfectly but the keyboard problem continues but now it happens every 2 hours apart, better but still a problem. So headset terrible on Dock, perfect direct to laptop. Keyboard problem on both dock and direct but not as bad with direct to laptop.
I then connected the USB dock back to the 7420 with the headset and keyboard connect to the dock to the old laptop. Ran it for days without a single problem, headset is perfect and the keyboard never fails. This dock worked for years on the old laptop without fail and this test would seem to suggest that the dock does not have any physical problems as it continues to work without these problems with the old laptop.
Ran all the usual, ensuring driver updates, dell updates, windows update, firmware updates etc with lots of reboots and power restarts on the dock. Nothing I can do seems to allow the usb devices to work on the dock when connected to new laptop but continues to work perfect on the old laptop.
I then called dell support and they sent out a tech to replace the motherboard as all testing would suggest a USB problem with the new laptop. Replacement motherboard had zero effect and did not solve any of the problems.
I am totally stumped on what to do next. This is a freshly loaded laptop only a week old.
