Touch screen device
I have a dell latitude 3540 laptop. I went into device manager and accidentally deleted the touch screen DEVICE, not the driver in the HID category. Is there anyway to reinstall the touch screen device? I also have check marked the "show hidden devices" without any luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can reinstall a deleted touchscreen device in Device Manager. If you accidentally uninstalled the touchscreen device (not the driver), it should reappear after restarting your computer. Windows will automatically detect the missing hardware and attempt to reinstall it during startup.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
1. Restart your computer: Windows should automatically detect the missing device and attempt to reinstall it upon startup. If the device appears in Device Manager after the restart, you're all set.
2. If it doesn't reappear:
Check for hidden devices:
In Device Manager, go to "View" and select "Show hidden devices". This might reveal the touchscreen device if it's been hidden.
Update drivers:
If the device appears but has a yellow exclamation mark, right-click it and select "Update driver." Choose "Search automatically for drivers" or "Browse my computer for drivers" to find the appropriate driver.
Uninstall and reinstall:
If updating doesn't work, right-click the device and select "Uninstall device." Restart your computer, and Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver.
3. If still not working:
Check the Dell Support website:
If the touchscreen is still not recognized, visit the Dell Support website for your device (laptop, tablet, etc.) and download the latest drivers for your operating system.
System Restore:
If the issue started recently, consider using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state before the device was deleted.
Hardware diagnostics:
Run hardware diagnostics (often accessible through the BIOS/UEFI settings) to check if the touchscreen is physically working.
Important notes:
Driver vs. Device:
Make sure you deleted the device, not just the driver. Deleting the device means the hardware entry itself is gone from Device Manager, while deleting the driver only removes the software component.
Dell Support website:
If you deleted the device, and restarting doesn't reinstall it, going to Dell Support website for your device and downloading the latest touchscreen drivers is a good next step.
System Restore:
If you're not sure when the problem started, System Restore can be a useful tool to go back to a point where the touchscreen was working.

Yes you can reinstall the driver by going in the device manager and you can install from there and you can also try a good device installer software tool as well to install it in your laptop if your are not able to do it maually.

Restarting your laptop might help Windows find and reinstall the missing touch screen device if you unintentionally erased it from the HID section in Device Manager on your Dell Latitude 3540. If that doesn't work, force Windows to look for any missing hardware by selecting Device Manager > Action > Scan for hardware changes. To download and install the most recent drivers and firmware for your model, you can also visit Dell's support website or look for Windows updates. Restoring the system to a point prior to the deletion could be helpful if the problem continues.
