Suggestion for Docking Station Utility
Recently, I used Dell Support to resolve an error. When booting my XPS15 Laptop and WD22TB4 dock, I received and an error from Dell Diagnostics. I quickly ran the diagnostic test and all checked out. The dock worked as usual. Sometime later, I applied an update and upon rebooting, I was presented with the same screen. I cancelled it and moved on to contact Dell Support. Eventually when I restarted the machine a third time, I read more closely and learned it was the fan in the docking station that was the problem. Dell support instructed me to do a hard reset of the dock (disconnect from both PC and power, wait and reconnect). This worked and was verified after two additional restarts. At the end of the session, the agent always asks, " Is there anything else?" I said, "Yes. Is there docking station fan monitoring utility ?" Answer no. My suggestion and recommendation to Dell is to develop and distribute such a utility since a non operational fan in a docking station is only detectable during a restart. That should always be a rare occurrence.
I hope someone in the forum throws big enough thunderbolts to get Dell's attention about this. I would like to install the result.
