Status light blinking and notebook is not charging

Hello, recently i noticed the status led on my Dell lattitude 5511 started rapidly blinking orange, and also its not charging (using original charger). The battery in there is not original, it was changed about 1.5 years ago, bought it from certified dell partner. Checked the Bios logs, nothing there. Dell optimizer says the battery is original and in excelent health (screenshot provided). Yesterday i updated all the drivers including bios/uefi update, after restart i seemed like the issue was fixed, battery was charging, status led was not blinking anymore, but today, the issue is back. How can i fix this?

Does the system recognize the AC adapter or does it show unknown?  F2 at powerup to check.

If the adapter shows unknown, the battery will not charge.

If the adapter is recognized, does the LED flash stop if you disconnect the battery?

The constant flashing amber would be related to the battery. I'd recommend running the diagnostic first to see if there are any errors.

  1. Shutdown the unit
  2. Hold down the Fn key and the power button together
  3. The quick test should automatically start
  4. Make note of any error and validation codes

If an error is received, it'll dictate where to address the issue. However, I'd really just look at doing a hard reset. The battery cable in particular may just need to be reseated.

  1. Disconnect any external devices including the AC adapter and disconnect the battery cable
  2. Hold the power button down for 10 seconds
  3. Reseat the battery cable
  4. Plug only the AC adapter back into the laptop
  5. Attempt to power on the system

If still unresolved, then do as Ejn said and enter the BIOS. Check the battery health and AC adapter wattage under General > Battery Info.

Run the ePSA Diagnostics (outside of Windows).

There is a Battery Test, and in System-Info more info about battery and its health status.

Plus, it checks other stuff.

Hello, today i ran the Dell Diagnostic tests with great results. All battery and charger tests passed with no errors. Even the status LED stopped blinking but its very likely that it will apear again in a few hours. So im going to try to do a hard reset and reseat the battery.

@ejn63 Why, whats wrong with it? Is it not an original one? The one i bought is from official dell store Link to the battery. The shop you send is US based, the delivery fees to Europe would be very high, im not buying that.

Only the seller can verify the origin of the battery.  You can verify the age of the battery with the Dell part number on the battery (will start with DP/N or CN etc.).  This system is about six years old, so regardless of when you bought the battery, it could be that age -- and batteries age, used or not.

Otherwise, a charging issue that shows up without a battery error or an adapter recognition error is caused by a faulty charge circuit - for which the fix is a replacement mainboard.

Well, we got some great news today. Seems like the battery really needs a replacement, but first im gonna try to reseat the battery and do the hard reset. All of this is very weird, the battery isnt that old, it was manufacture on 6/8/2023 so its relatively new.

Well I will suggest you to try the following:

Try Hard Reset (Power Drain)
Check Adapter Detection in BIOS
Try Test Without Battery
Reseat Battery Connection
Try to Update BIOS Again
