Looking for correlation: WD19/WD19S docks triggering disconnect/reconnect events during system sleep

Hi all,

I’m currently investigating an issue involving the Dell WD19 and WD19S docking stations on our Latitude 5450 devices. After the laptop enters Sleep mode, the dock begins triggering repeated USB‑C disconnect/reconnect events. This results in audible device‑connect chimes and, in some cases, momentary display/peripheral resets.
Dell told us to replace the WD19 and WD19S

Environment details for reference:

  • OS: Windows 11 23H2 (fully patched)
  • Lapfont-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">BIOS: 1.18.1
  • Dock: WD19/WD19S running the latest available firmware
  • Drivers: All system/chipset/Thunderbolt/USB‑C drivers up to date

I’m trying to determine whether this behavior is isolated or affecting multiple configurations.

If you’re experiencing similar symptoms, can you share:

  • Laptop model
  • BIOS version
  • Windows build/version
  • WD19 / WD19S firmware version
  • Whether the issue occurs only in Sleep, or also during idle
  • Any changes after disabling USB Selective Suspend or adjusting power profiles

We are experiencing the same issue with WD19 and WD19S docks on Latitude 5450 systems. The dock repeatedly disconnects and reconnects after the system enters Sleep, causing device chimes and brief display resets. Replacing the dock did not resolve the issue, and it does not occur during normal idle use. This appears to be a broader Windows 11 sleep or firmware related problem rather than isolated hardware failure.

Multiple people in our US Office are experiencing this. Its for some reason very loud on most of the laptops that this happens and simply bothers all coworkers, when someone leaves their workplace for a meeting or whatever.

Has happened on multiple, different Latitude laptops such as 5440, 5450 and as of me writing on the newest bios and newest WD19 firmware.

I have not noticed it happening during idle, only after the pc goes to sleep.

A workaround that I found was to disable the sound effect for device disconnected under sound -> more sound settings -> sounds

What I noticed is that this problem only happens when we have 2 monitors plugged into the WD19 alongside network and usb devices. My guess is that it somehow is using too much bandwidth for the USB Controller on the dock.

Another workaround that comes to mind, if the bandwidth is the real problem, that I unfortunately can't test right now would be to daisychain 2 monitors through only 1 cable (dock ->dp cable ->monitor 1 that supports DP Multi-Stream Transport, such as the u2422h ->DP cable in the output port -> Monitor 2) This would use the bandwidth available to one of the DP port at most and you could still run 2x 1080p 120hz Monitors without a problem.

Hi All

we have the same issue in our office :-(
We register this issue with Dell laptops models:
Latitude 5450
Latitude 5440
Latitude 5540
Latitude 5550
Latitude 5431

bios versions:
1.17.1
1.17.2
1.18.1
1.24.2
1.25.1
1.26.1
1.33.1

W11 version:
10.0.26100.7462
10.0.26100.7623

There are other laptops with the same model/bios/winver without this issue.

We are using 2 external monitors Dell P2723D and Dell P2723DE.
Laptop -> USB-c -> monitor1 P2723DE (with dockstation) -> displayport from monitor1 to monitor2 P2723D
Or Dell dock WD19 + 2x Dell P2422H (connected to the dockstation via display port or HDMI).

We also have workplace with WD19 + 2x Dell U2719D (connected to the dockstation via display port or HDMI) - but there are no this issue !!!

I also tried to connect 1 monitor  Dell P2723DE via USB-C and second monitor directly to the laptops via HDMI - there were no this issue !

Did anyone solve this issue structurally? (without any workaround).

thank you.
