Latitude hissing/static/crackling sound

Hi All

I have a Latitude 5350. When (and only when) the USB-C power supply is connected, it makes a static/crackling/hissing/interference sound. hard to describe.

It is not coming from the speakers, battery or the fans.

Disconnect the power source, silence. Reconnect and it starts again.

When windows idles, the sound is minimum. but when it gets more active the sound increases, which would make me think its the cpu or ram, but do they even make noises?

Its under warranty but getting the people on the line to understand what type of noise i mean is impossible.

Ive tried various different chargers (all official dell)

reinstalled windows from scratch

bios up to date

drivers up to date

i disconnected the battery and it still does it so its not the battery....

Any ideas?

Thanks

@ejn63

Doesnt make a difference if direct into the wall or via power strip. at home or in office.

Yes, official OEM chargers

I had the same issue....just figured out what my problem was.  In an effort to manage my unruly cables, I wrapped the usb-c line from the charger around the charger itself.  I believe that made an antenna out of the cable.  When I separated the line from the block, the crackling went away.  Also...check your power supply cables for any kinks/nicks as this can also add hissing/crackling.

Is the power adapter plugged directly into the wall, or to a power strip?

Are you using the OEM AC adapter?

Does the issue occur regardless of where you plug it in (office vs home etc)?

If that means multiple chargers, there must be a missing ground somewhere inside the system.  If it's under warranty, call Dell for repair.  If not, and you're comfortable working  inside the system, check to make sure all the internal screws are in place and firmly connected (on the system board, that is) and that the USB-C port(s) are firmly connected to the system board.
