Latitude 7420 gets too hot to start
My Latitude gets so hot it shuts down and won't restart until it's cooled right down. This is when in Standby. The underneath of the case gets almost too hot to touch in places. It's done it twice now in the past 7 days. Never did it before. Warranty expired last Dec. Other than that, it's a great PC. Any suggestions to diagnose / fix? It's fully updated, Dell Support has applied all Dell updates.
Thanks in advice.

If the system has never had internal maintenance (thorough cleaning and replacement of the thermal pads that connect the heatsink to the CPU), that's the place to start.

@ejn63 Is that possible for a user or does it require a proper tech person?

@MikeBeyonDSL Depends on how experienced you are with servicing computers. Most people can probably figure out how to replace thermal paste with a tutorial at hand.
