Latitude 7410 - External HDMI Monitor Goes Black When Charger Plugged In

Issue Summary: My Dell Latitude 7410 external monitor (connected via HDMI) immediately goes black when I plug in the AC adapter. The monitor stays "connected" according to Windows but displays nothing. This happens with multiple different external monitors.

System Details:

  • Model: Dell Latitude 7410
  • Connection: HDMI to external monitor
  • Issue occurs: Instantly when AC adapter is plugged in
  • Monitor behavior: Goes black but remains "detected" by Windows

Troubleshooting Already Attempted:

✅ Changed Dell Power Manager from Ultra Performance to Optimized

✅ Disabled "Extend Battery Life for Gaming" in Intel Graphics Command Center

✅ Modified Windows PCI Express Link State Power Management (set to "Off")

✅ Registry edit: Added TdrDelay = 10 to GraphicsDrivers

✅ BIOS changes: Disabled Multi-Display, Wake on AC, C-States

✅ Updated Intel graphics drivers to latest version

✅ Device Manager: Disabled/re-enabled Intel UHD Graphics

Current Status: Issue persists across all troubleshooting attempts. The problem is reproducible and consistent. External display works perfectly on battery power.

Looking For:

  • Anyone else experienced this specific issue with Latitude 7410?
  • Successful workarounds or permanent fixes
  • Information about known BIOS updates addressing this issue

Question for Dell Support: Is this a known hardware/firmware limitation with the Latitude 7410's power state management affecting HDMI output?

Thanks for any assistance!

A black screen when connecting a laptop to an HDMI device can stem from several issues. Common causes include a faulty HDMI cable, incorrect input selection on the display, or a problem with the laptop's display settings or graphics drivers. It's also possible that the laptop's screen resolution is incompatible with the TV or monitor's resolution.
