Latitude 5420, upgraded RAM works, external monitor does not
Yesterday I upgraded my 2021 Dell Latitude 5420 with two brand new sticks of 16 GB memory. They replaced a single 16 GB stick. The new RAM is Corsair Vengeance SODIMM DDR4 3200 MHz. Everything is running beautifully and the laptop is recognising 32 GB of memory.
I have one problem, the monitor that I connect to is not being recognised normally by the laptop. When I connect the monitor it asks me to change the resolution to 1920x1080 in a small blue window floating across the monitor. I swapped back to the original 16GB RAM and the identical problem appears.
Does anybody have an idea of what could be the problem?
Thank you in advance.
Regards
Greg

When you connect your monitor and it prompts you to change the resolution to 1920x1080 in a small blue window, it's likely indicating the recommended or native resolution for that particular display.
Native Resolution: Every monitor has a specific native resolution, which represents the optimal number of pixels it's designed to display. Using a resolution other than the native one can result in a blurry or scaled image.
Driver or System Detection: When you connect a monitor, your computer's operating system (like Windows) and graphics card drivers try to detect the monitor's capabilities, including its native resolution.
Automatic Recommendation: If the detected resolution doesn't match the monitor's native resolution, the system or monitor itself might recommend or prompt you to change it to the optimal setting (1920x1080 in your case) to ensure the best possible display quality.
In short, the small blue window is a helpful notification suggesting you adjust the resolution to the ideal setting for your monitor. You'll want to accept this change to get the clearest and sharpest picture on your new display.
