Latitude 3420, Dell Data Manager process is using high CPU and RAM usage

Dell Support~

We found an issue relate Dell Data Manager process is using high CPU and RAM usage on Latitude 3420 Model ONLY. Other Dell laptop model is normal. We have many users using Latitude 3420 model that face the issue. Even relate all of Dell app is up to date version. Thanks in advance for any help. I really appreciate it!

For everyone looking for a palliative solution.
Install the following Dell software (latest version):

Dell Command Update 5.5.0, file: Dell-Command-Update-Windows-Universal-Application_C8JXV_WIN64_5.5.0_A00
Dell Periperal Manager 2.1.0.24, file: DDPM-Setup_2.1.0.24

With this the following components will be installed:


Go to SERVICES.MSC and stop and change Dell TechHub service to MANUAL START.


Restart the computer. Validate:



With the Dell TechHub service stopped, you won't be able to use Dell Peripheral Manager software.
If you need to use it, activate the service, use the software and then stop and restart your computer.
Other Dell software will work normally.

I don't use and don't recommend SupportAssist.

Hi everyone,

Please try:

  1. Uninstall Dell Command Update (DCU) 5.5
  2. Uninstall Dell Core Services 1.10.33.0
  3. Reboot your system
  4. Install DCU 5.4
  5. Give it another try and see if the issue is resolved.

If the issue is still unresolved for you, please contact tech support by clicking the Get Help Now icon at the bottom right corner of this page.

You’ll first be connected to a virtual assistant that will help validate your system and the issue. If needed, you can ask to be transferred to a support agent, or the assistant may do that automatically.

Same problem here...

Suddenly consumes 25 to 50% of CPU resources and now it's keeping RAM usage at 95% and above.

Same problem here. Latitude 3420. RAM over 90%. CPU 100% Dell Data Manager, but also Dell Instrumentation and Dell Analytics using quite some resources.

Same problem here with Latitude 3420 and Latitude 3520 laptops. All other Latitude series are working fine. 

Killing the Dell Data Manager, Analytics and instrumentation services provides only a temporarely solution for a few days. After that the problem returns once again. 

CPU usage is going up to 50% and more then 50% of RAM is consumed by the Dell Data Manager service.

We don't use SupportAssist. We have Dell Command update 5.5.0 installed in our Latitude 3420 image. Uninstalling this "solves" the problem. Reïnstalling restarts the problem.

Tried it with Dell command update regular and Dell command Update for Windows Universall. Both give the same problem. Memory going towards 4GB and processor towards 100%. 

Disabling the windows service "Dell TechHub" and rebooting the system is our current workaround, because it doesnt start the Dell datamanager, Dell Instrumentation and Dell Analytics process. Actually don't know what these processes do. We actually only need the Command update, which keeps working after disabling the Techhub service.

I'm having the same issue with a half a dozen Dell Latitude 3520s.  Dell Data Manager is Killing the CPUs.  I ran Dell Command Update and installed all available patches.  All Windows updates are installed.  

Users are not even able to use the systems.

Even though Dell SupportAssist is not installed, was the "Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update" installed? If yes, uninstall it. Then restart the PC and retest.

We don't have the "Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update" installed.

Did some further investigation. 

  1. Uninstalled program DCU ( Dell Command Update) and program DCS (Dell Core Services) --> no more problems. 
  2. Re-installed DCU 5.5.0. This installs program DCU AND program DCS. DCS installs service "Dell Tech Hub", causing the processes "Dell Data Manager", "Dell Instrumation" and "Dell Analytics" to run. These processes consume a lot of memory and processor power. --> problem
  3. Uninstalled DCU 5.5 AND program DCS. Then after reboot installed DCU 5.4.1 (previous version). This doesn't install the Dell Core Services --> no problems. 
  4. Extra --> Ran "Dell Command Update" and installed all updates. This does also install the mentioned "Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update' --> still no problems. 

Conclusion: Problem is program "Dell Core Services" containing "Dell Techhub service". "Dell Techhub service" runs processes "Dell Data Data Manager", "Dell Instrumentation" and "Dell Analytics". Especially the first 2 processes cause the memory and processur consumptions.

@DELL-Nat M​ Hi Nat. Can we please get this issue acknowledged on the Known Issues page for DCU 5.5 to increase awareness? This is affecting 50+ laptops in our business so we are uninstalling until it's fixed. Thanks.
