Laptop screen

I have a Latitude 15 that the touchscreen stopped working and I have some white blocks on the left side and middle of the screen. I've tried removing drivers and touchscreen and re-installing with no change. Any ideas? Thanks.

@DELL-Daniel V I ran the system test and all was fine. I went into bios and touchscreen was enabled but still not working. I will order screen and see if that fixes the problems. Thanks for your help.

Run a screen diagnostic by holding the D key through powerup.  Do the same faults show on the test screens?

What model Latitude (E5430, 7440, etc.)?

@ejn63 The blocks do not show up during the test screens. It's a Dell Latitude 5580.

@captclick If the blocks are not appearing during the LCD self test, then that would typically be an indication that the LCD is in working order. This sort of distortion may then be related to a GPU failure. However, since the touchscreen is also not functional, I'd lean more towards an LCD issue. I'd recommend trying out the following steps:

  1. Perform a hard reset
    1. Disconnect any external devices including the AC adapter and disconnect the battery cable if able.
    2. Hold the power button down for 10 seconds
    3. Bypass any power strips, surge protectors or battery backups
    4. Verify the wall outlet is functional
    5. Reseat the battery cable if disconnected
    6. Plug only the AC adapter back into the laptop
    7. Attempt to power on the system and test your touch screen
  2. Ensure the touchscreen is enabled and functional within the BIOS
    1. Enter the BIOS
    2. Click on System Configuration
    3. Ensure the Touchscreen function is checked on
    4. This older platform should still let you use touch within the BIOS. Test if it responds by tapping on options
      1. If unresponsive in the BIOS, then the touch feature has likely failed requiring an LCD replacement
      2. If touch works in the BIOS, then it should be a driver issue in Windows
  3. Run the preboot diagnostic to ensure that is passing. I don't expect it to find any issues, but it'll be a good test to ensure nothing else is wrong
    1. Shutdown the unit
    2. Hold down the Fn key and the power button together
    3. The quick test should automatically start
    4. Make note of any error and validation codes
    5. Make note of any blocks appearing here, touch can also be tested in the menu after the quick test completes
  4. Update the BIOS, GPU, and chipset drivers

If still unresolved after updates and the touchscreen fails preboot, feel free to reach out to the out of warranty teams for a possible LCD repair quote.
