How can I backup Dell Windows 11 laptop computer to external drive?

Question

There is a test machine in office and it is configured with dozens of advanced rules for app testing and code signing. We want to back up the whole laptop computer to an external drive for safety consideration. When there were something wrong with the device, we can easily restore it from previous backup.

I checked the built-in File History feature in Windows 11 but it only backups files and folders. I want to make a full backup of the laptop to external ssd drive just in case. What is the best way to do this now?

Opinions vary I suspect.

So if you clone the existing one to an ""identical"" size, make, model etc of storage device, then it becomes swappable.

Because the need for a backup can be physical problems as well as data corruption.

Also how often you update the backup is a consideration.

So what exactly are your parameters?

EG: backup and running within 2 - 4 hours, or 24 hours? Etc Etc.
