dell wd19tb issues -latitude 5400, precision 3550/latitude 5480

I had an issue to where I had to unplug and replug the usbc to get video on external displays, sometimes 3 or 4 times like today and I got tired of that and people said they upgraded the firmware to fix, I tried that and I no longer have video on 1 or 2 LG W1952TQ displays. same ones work directly over hdmi to same laptop.

message on display says "out of range'

I tried every one of their firmware versions on their site. nothing is working. I suspect they removed support for 1440x900 resolution displays in the firmware updates.

I was wondering if anyone had the first firmware release. Or a fix how to do this in either windows 10/11 or linux.

it works fine over hdmi on 1080p display as well as 1366x768 displays.

I'd try out a hard reset on the dock:

  1. Remove the dock USB-C or Thunderbolt cable from the computer.
  2. Unplug AC power from the dock.
  3. Drain any remaining power to the dock by holding the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Plug AC power into the dock.
  5. The dock LED on the power button should blink three (3) times.
  6. Plug the dock USB-C or Thunderbolt cable back to the computer.

If still unresolved, reinstall graphic drivers and any related to thunderbolt if present on your system. I've never tried rolling back dock firmware, so I'm honestly not sure if its possible. That said, when on the driver page for the dock, just click on the Older Versions button and you can try to go from there.

@DELL-Daniel V  do you have the original firmware that did work for that display? or something older than the oldest one listed?

@remixedcatmusic Without knowing what version you previously had, it'd be difficult to say which was a possible working version. The only versions available would be the ones listed in the linked driver page. So the oldest available would be the one from 04 Jul 2022. However, I wouldn't be certain on how far back you can roll back on the dock. Could be a similar situation like a BIOS update that prevents rollbacks to certain earlier versions. Unless you already did the rollback in which case that can be disregarded. The only other thing I can think of testing wise would be a known good dock to see if its just the ports themselves that have failed now. Or possibly a newer known good monitor, even a TV would do for testing.

@DELL-Daniel V  it works for any other displays but the 2 LG, which makes me suspect the frequency changed or the tolerances changed and my 2 LGs don't like the new frequency the dock has put them in. It's weird cuz the same displays work directly connected to the laptop with the same cables.

@DELL-Daniel V I managed to get a replacement dock for cheap and both LGs work! I guess I'll have a spare dock for trips or whatever.
