Possible Reasons for Unintended Wake from Hibernate
  1. BIOS Settings: Incorrect power state settings in the BIOS may cause the system to wake unexpectedly.
  2. Driver Issues: Outdated or corrupt chipset or video drivers can lead to erratic behavior, including waking from hibernate.
  3. Power Options: Misconfigured power options in the operating system can trigger unintended wake events.
  4. Corrupt hiberfil.sys: An old or corrupt hibernation file may cause issues with the hibernation process.
  5. Software Conflicts: Certain applications or software running in the background may interfere with the hibernation state.
  6. Peripheral Devices: Devices connected to the system that do not support suspend modes can prevent proper hibernation.
Recommended Actions
  • Update BIOS and Drivers: Ensure that the BIOS and all relevant drivers are up to date.
  • Check Power Options: Review and adjust the power settings in the operating system.
  • Refresh hiberfil.sys: Consider refreshing or recreating the hibernation file.
  • Clean Boot: Perform a clean boot to identify if any software is causing the issue.
  • Disconnect Peripherals: Temporarily disconnect any peripherals to see if the issue persists.

Following these steps can help diagnose and resolve the issue of the system waking from hibernate unexpectedly.

It's been happening since I updated BIOS using DELL cutting-edge test framework using Dell customers so called "Dell Command". I wonder can I roll-back my BIOS to old version?

@DellUser56575 I would maybe pause a moment - run windows update.  It's not Dell, it was a bad KB from Windows updating.

@user_2552fa I apologize for blaming Dell bios update. The timeline is very close when I installed both Windows updates and Dell bios. After I checked and ran this command. I can hibernate my laptop now!

wusa /uninstall /kb:5073455 /quiet /promptrestart
