Resolving Bluetooth "Error Code 54" on Dell Laptops
Original discussion: Bluetooth error code 54
Description of Issue
The error message "This device has failed and is undergoing a reset. (Code 54)" appears in the Bluetooth Device Manager, causing Bluetooth devices, such as mice and keyboards, to become unresponsive. Restarting the computer temporarily resolves the issue, but it recurs frequently, leading to frustration.
Instructions for Resolution
-
Check for driver updates on the Intel website. Users have found success in updating to the latest Bluetooth driver version.
-
If updating does not resolve the issue, consider rolling back to a previous driver version that was stable for your device.
-
Another suggested fix is to disable and then re-enable the USB Root Hub associated with the Bluetooth adapter in Device Manager. This can be done by:
Opening Device Manager.
Setting the view to "Devices by Connection".
Finding the USB Root Hub (USB 3.0) under the Intel USB controller.
Right-clicking to disable it, then re-enable it.
-
Adjust power management settings:
In Device Manager, locate the Bluetooth Low Energy GATT compliant HID device.
Right-click and select Properties.
Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
