Fix Dell WD19TB Dock Fan Error – “Your Dock Fan Has Failed”

Some Dell WD19TB docking stations may display a pre-boot message:
“Your dock fan has failed. You may experience reduced performance until your dock is serviced.”
In most cases, this is related to firmware or power management and can be resolved with updates and resets.

Error Indicators

  • Pre-boot message: “Your dock fan has failed”
  • Dock fan may run at high speed intermittently

Possible Causes

  • Firmware or BIOS mismatch between dock and system
  • Power delivery issues under high load
  • Sensor misread or temporary fault in dock controller

Instructions for Resolution

Important: Always disconnect AC power before performing resets or cleaning. Use only Dell-approved firmware and drivers.

  1. Perform a Dock Reset
  • Disconnect the dock’s USB-C/Thunderbolt cable from the computer.
  • Unplug AC power from the dock.
  • Hold the dock’s power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.
  • Reconnect AC power (LED should blink three times).
  • Reconnect the dock to the computer.
  1. Update Firmware, BIOS, and Drivers
  • Use Dell Command | Update or SupportAssist to update:
    • System BIOS
    • Dock firmware (dock must be connected during update)
  1. Use the Original Dell Power Adapter
  • Ensure the dock uses its original Dell power supply (180W or 240W as specified).
  1. If Issue Persists
  • Contact Dell Support for further assistance or dock replacement if under warranty.

Additional Notes

  • The message can often be bypassed without functional issues, but applying updates is recommended.
