XPS 17 - is that "bump" on underside removable to make the unit flatter/thinner?

Considering an XPS 17, and see that large bulge on the underside in the back. Is that a removable/adjustable attachment that just used for raising the angle of the unit? Seems to make it bulky. Would like a flat bottomed laptop.
