Latitude C840 Battery problems

Hello All

Hope someone can help me out. I have an DELL Latitude with battery problems.

The problem i'm having is that when the battery is inside the notebook the charging light is flashing green/orange.
When the battery is outside the notebook and I press the test button the lights 1,3 and 5 burn green for a whiel and than nothign anymore.

I can work with the battery as the system keeps syaing the battery is getting to hot while charging even without the power connected to an outlet.

Does anybody know what the light 1,3 and 5 mean when they flash like this and what the charging light on the notebook mean.
Tried to search it online but so far no luck at all.
I'm thinkng of an bad battery, but sadly do not have an spare oen to test with.

Thanks for your help

Hi,

The lights are telling you the battery is bad. In your model there is a seperate battery charger card, so if has been damaged, cheaper than a MBD. A new battery should be all you need though.

Hi Chris

Thnx for your quick answer, not to question your answer but how did you find this out.
I searched all forums and manuals from DELL and couldn't find anyhting on these light or error.
Just interesting to see where to find these errors for the future.

I will order a new battery

Regards
Harry

Hi,

I have seen it first-hand and in service docs [ I think ]. If you do an advanced search you will find a number of Posts with the same symptom of the LED's.
                                                                                         Regards Chris
