Hard Drive upgrade clone unsuccessful Inspiron 6400

I used Acronis True Image to clone my hard drive. The new hard drive is a Seagate ST9320421ASG 320 GB.  However after cloning the new hard drive is reported to have the same capacity as the old hard drive (38.7GB). I've read some posts on other websites that state it's a common problem when upgrading the HDD on Dell Inspiron 6400 (something about copying "LBA-3" and it hiding the "HPA"). Is there a relatively simple way to correct this problem so I can upgrade my HDD without spending days reloading my OS and all programs and data?
