Hi kavindagehan,

The Synaptic touchpad driver listed on the Dell support site is compatible with Windows 8.

For reference open this link and expand 'Compatibility' : http://dell.to/Rrw09Y

Please reply with the results.

Hey Satya,

I hav window 8 in my XPS 15, purchased last year..

I have installed the track pad drivers, but when i try to turn the trackpad off, it doest work.. I mean the orange light turn on aftr pressing the Fn key + F3 key... but the trackpad still remains active.. When i drag my fingers ova the trackpad, the cursor moves..

When i tried to install the 'Synaptics Synaptics TouchPad, v.15.2.6.0, A00' it gave me an error saying - to install the older version first uninstall the current Synaptics driver from the control panel-

Any solution for this??

Hi Amol K,

XPS 15 has the following variants: XPS L501X, XPS L502X, XPS L521X. Please share the exact system model.

You may remove the "Touchpad application" from 'Programs and Features' in 'Control Panel'. To uninstall open 'Programs and Features' by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button -- > Control Panel -- > Programs -- > Programs and Features --> Select a program then click Uninstall.  Once done, You may uninstall touchpad driver from "Device Manager" and re-install it by following the steps below:

  • Click on “Start” and right click on “Computer”.
  • Click on “Manage”.
  • Click on “Device Manager”.
  • Under “Mice and other pointing devices”, you will find the touchpad driver listed.
  • Right click on it and click on “uninstall”. (Check and make a note of the driver installed on your system and re-install the driver from the below steps accordingly).
  • Check the box to delete the software.
  • Restart your system
  • Click on the below link: http://dell.to/QjjZDA
  • Enter the Service Tag of your system and select the operating system.
  • Go to “Input” and click on the touchpad driver available.
  • Click on “Download File”.
  • Select “For Single File Download via Browser”.
  • Click on “Download Now”.
  • Save the touchpad driver on your desktop.
  • Once the touchpad driver is downloaded on the desktop, right click on it and select “Run as administrator”.
  • Follow the prompts on screen and restart your computer.

Once done, you may try changing the touchpad settings by clicking the touchpad icon in notification area.

Please share the findings.

The dell xps 502x may run with the synaptics drivers provided for win7, but many gestures needed to operate win8 properly are not supported (e.g. charmsbar or even the top down gesture needed in the mail app). I installed the newest synaptics driver but every now and than when i execute a multitouch gesture the cursor gets stuck, and i need to wait for a minute before it recovers. Please adapt the drivers for win8!
