Battery Pack problem

The wires on my battery pack are frayed and I can't turn on my Inspiron 1000 without it. I don't care about charging the battery.  All I want is a pack that I can plug in the wall in order to turn my computer on.  I found a whole new AC adapter at a battery store but it was almost $90. Is there a universal one I can use that just allows it to turn on and doesn't necessarily recharge the whole battery?
