Nodes insertion OneFS 8

Hello everybody,

Can we insert several nodes simultaneously in an isilon cluster in OneFS 8 or it must be done sequentially.

Hi,

I would always add new nodes to the cluster one after the other to control the logical numbering analog to the physical installation in the rack. You can start the joinining process of a new Node, wait until the new Node appears in the Clusters Node list, than starting the next joining process, and so on.

Otherwise, if even the first new node causes problems when adding, the errors would add up at the end with all other simultanously added nodes and you maybe lose the overview about the issues.

About how many new Nodes we are talking?

Depening on Node type and the Cluster vs. Node OneFS version the joining process may be very fast (only some minutes) and there is no need to add more than one node at the same time.

Best regards

Phil

Hi Phil,

I always integrate the new nodes via the serial port.
By doing this, I can control the hardware. I noticed that ids are distributed very early in the integration, so no need to wait until the end.
Indeed the integration of the nodes is fast when all the nodes have the same version of OneFS. But when it's different, there is automatically a reformatting of the nodes and it can take more than 1 hour.

I'm going to have 24 nodes to integrate and I'm looking to save time.

So I wanted to know if I took a risk by starting the insertion of a new node when the previous one and at the time of formatting?
