Need to replace a I2C cable in a Isilon NL-400 but can't find part number for it.
I work at an e-waste recycler. More than a year ago we acquired multiple old Isilons. One was repurposed as network storage at work. The employee who set it up thought the drives in the Isilon were getting too hot so he figured out how to make the fans run at 100% all the time. I think he did this by removing a cable that goes from the SAS expander (model 415-0047-04 Rev B) board's ICE J7 header to the motherboard's (model Supermicro X8DT6-A-IS018) JIPMB header. As I recall he basically ripped it out and showed it to me after he did it. Some conductors came out of the plug on the J7 end and the part number tag was missing some numbers for some reason. They may have been torn off. If I've understood correctly, after researching this a bit, that cable caries the fan status data by I2C from the SAS expander to the motherboard. The 3 fans in this model plug directly in to the SAS expander. Actually, the expander seems to do much more than just function as a SAS expander so maybe that isn't the right name for it but I hope my readers understand. I tried going to Dell's website for information about this model but it seems Dell has made support for this Isilon unavailable. My other thread about that is here. Since the employee who worked on this unit moved on to another job I have repurposed this NL-400 as a drive wiping machine for data destruction. However, it is very noisy, probably unnecessarily, because its fans are always running at 100%. I'd like to try replacing the missing I2C cable so that I can configure the fan speeds again. What is the part number for this cable? Or, where might I find that information if not from Dell's website?
