Isilon Migration / Licensing

Hello,

I need to migrate an Isilon Cluster with X210 nodes to a new Isilon H500. I am planning the migration to add new H500 nodes to existing cluster. After this I am going to smartfail and remove old X210 nodes. After this I will install new licenses. OneFS version is 8.1.2.x Because of new OneFS licensing procedures cluster will temporary exceed installed licenses during migration. Do I need intermediate licenses during migration? Do all enabled licensed cluster features stay online during migration?

Bye

Robert

Hello Robert, The cluster will need to be at OneFS 8.1 to accept the Gen 6 nodes (H500's). If you can update the existing cluster along with the latest version of the node firmware you can add in the H500 nodes and update the licensing. Once this is done, and if you don't already have one, you can obtain a temporary SmartPool license through the licensing wizard within OneFS and use this to migrate the date internally between the nodes before smart failing them out. Hope this helps.
